Thanks for attending the 2011 TAA Conference! 24th Annual TAA Conference a huge success

TAA's 24th Annual Conference, Let Your Writing Soar!, was a huge success, bringing together more than 80 textbook and academic authors seeking to enhance their knowledge of writing, contracts, royalties, collaboration, open access and ebooks. Held in Albuquerque, New Mexico, June 23-25, attendees gave high praise to the quality of the presenters, sessions, and mentors, and the variety of networking opportunities.

2011 TAA Conference photo gallery

Sherry Bishop"This is one of the best and most useful conferences I have ever attended!" said attendee Sherry Bishop.

Sisters of the Academy Institute's Felicia Moore Mensah, received high marks from attendees for her four-hour workshop on academic writing held on Thursday, June 23. Participants said they learned ideas and strategies that will be helpful in their writing career.

Tamara Bertrand Jones and LeKita Scott Dawkins lead a Roundtable Discussion on collaboration.

On Friday morning, attendees networked during the Welcome Networking Breakfast, sponsored by Copyright Clearance Center (CCC). Following the breakfast, keynote speaker, geography textbook author Robert Christopherson, shared a fascinating geographical overview of the Albuquerque, NM region. During the rest of Friday's sessions attendees learned about indexing and ebooking issues, digital publishing opportunities, co-author collaboration, the Google Settlement, contracts, authoring software, writing programs, royalty audits and academic publishing. Many participants enjoyed a group trip followed by a tram ride up to the Sandia Peak.

Social Media Intern Libby Corning is busy creating tweets from the tips and strategies attendees learned from attending conference sessions and meeting with mentors.

The learning opportunities continued on Saturday with sessions on digital textbooks, writing productivity, international editions, trademarks and book titles, and finding images through open access and the public domain. Several 2011 Textbook Excellence and McGuffey Longevity Award winners were present to accept their awards during the Awards Ceremony Luncheon, where they also had the opportunity to share personal insights into the authoring process.

Attendees came together each night in the Hospitality Suite, where they discussed the day's sessions and found collaborators for future writing projects.

Thank you to everyone who attended the 2011 TAA Conference!
