Thomson Learning
Acquires ARC Publishing Company
Thomson Higher Education,
a part of Thomson Learning, has acquired ARC Publishing Company, Inc.
The new entity will be folded into Thomson Custom Publishing. ARC Publishing
Company, Inc., based in Houston, Texas, is a publisher of taxation books
for the academic and industry markets. The acquired titles include all
books in the Pratt/Kulsrud Taxation Series. The closing date for the
acquisition is October 5, 2004. Further terms of the agreement have
not been disclosed.

Classroom Connect
Selected for SC Laptop Initiative
Classroom Connect,
an educational technology division of Harcourt, Inc., announced that
the Kershaw County School District in Brisbane, California has selected
Classroom Connect as its professional development provider for the district's
laptop learning initiative, the first of its kind in the state of South
Carolina. Twelve thousand two hundred Hewlett-Packard laptops will be
distributed annually to all entering ninth grade students and their
teachers beginning this fall. For the first year, a $248,000 professional
development "Laptop Institute" package from Classroom Connect will train
educators across the district on technology integration best practices.

TAA Executive
Director Ron Pynn's Wife Dies
TAA Executive Director
Ron Pynn's wife, Scharlene, died September 1, 2004 after a 15-year battle
with a brain tumor. During a Memorial Service for his wife, Pynn recounted
the happy moments of Scharlene's life: her work as a nurse, motherhood,
her love of handicrafts. Pynn and Scharlene were married for 43 years.
She is survived by her husband, three children, and four grandchildren.

Accepting Applications to Council of Fellows
TAA is now accepting
applications to the Council of Fellows, which honors distinguished authors
who have a long record of successful and diversified publications. Any
author whose textbooks or academic articles have established his/her
presence in their field over time and who has been innovative in the
presentation of material may apply. Fellows are provided with special
engraved medallions upon induction. They also receive free lifetime
membership in TAA. Applications are due November 30, 2004. They should
